Yesterday, March 16th, was the March meetup for the local Strobist group. This time we flash-mobbed Jimmy’s Sports Bar in Multnomah Village. They opened a bit early for us so that we can get things setup before things got too busy which also allowed us to do some things the Oregon Liquor Control Commission wouldn’t have liked us doing during business hours.
The image attached is one I took of one of the several great models that were in attendance. Zuzzie was great and we utilized her throughout various areas of Jimmy’s - including their walk-in cooler! This picture utilizes a Sunpak383 with a red gel (1/4 power) on camera left, and my crappy Vivitar 3700 in a reflective umbrella at camera right and up.
It was shot in RAW, and then cross-processed in post production.
Unfortunately I spent more time playing host and making sure Jimmy’s staff, photographers, and models were comfortable and having a good time. Many of the regulars at Jimmy’s also got into the feel for things and became additional models! We had a couple hairy moments the whole day which included a cheerleader jumping on the bar, Strobist group shot behind the bar with bottles in hand, and a few other moments.
In all I had a great time and learned a lot. One attendee showed me his modified Vivitar3500 which allows him full manual flash control. Pretty cool setup and inexpensive to do. I also spent a good amount of time helping out Daron (strobist: Strayz01 - On Flickr) He has great interaction with the models and a good understanding of what he wants his lights to do and how to do it.
Additional photos from this shoot can be found on My Flickr Page and other people’s photos can also be found on flickr
