The Misses and I headed out of town for a weekend getaway to Bend, OR. The hopes was to go out and see if we couldn’t catch a few reptiles for some great shots, but, alas, the weather didn’t cooperate. The other weekend it was 80F. The weekend we chose to go on barely broke the freezing mark. No reptile would be out.
Fortunately, all was not lost
We managed a snowy visit to the High Desert Museum just outside of town. They did have a reptile section, but one that wasn’t all that impressive to us. They had a couple bigger cats around (linx and bobcat) and some impressively large raptors.
But… crap… wait… yes… there was another problem.
Someone (namely me) failed to both charge his battery before the trip, and failed to bring along a charger. The battery had enough juice for just a couple dozen shots. Mostly of a lame attempt to catch a young chipmunk on crack (unsuccessfully), some birds, and the Linx.
But, what about the focus issues you’ve been having? Well, I anticipated that frustration. I switched the 20d over to AIServo mode. Its usually used for sports and action photography, but decided to give it a go. It helped some, and I found myself listening quite a bit to the lens. I ended up with 3 decent shots - 2 from my kit lens (linx), and 1 from the Sigma 28-105 (bird below)
I’m still planning on a few more tests and maybe even a repair job at CanonUSA. That’ll be fun….
