Better Late than Never - Photographer Christmas Ideas...

I thought I had this going already, but seems to have diappeared…

Anyways, there is now less than 2 weeks to get your shopping done.  I suppose this is a good time for me to get started.  Oops.  What can I say.  I work retail, so this time of year, yes, even this year, has been busy.  I still have a couple hundred images to work my way through as well.  At this point I think most of my editting is going to have to wait till 2009.

Without further adeu, here’s a quick shopping list for you.  Hopefully it will help out the photographer you know and shopping for.   Most items on this list do not assume you know what your photographer is using for a camera.  There are a couple specialty items, however, that are best left alone unless you REALLY know what your special someone is shooting with.  This is all in no particular order…

  • Trek Tech Trek-Pod Go! I know I mention this toy a lot. I love it. Once your special someone tries it, they’ll love it… Trek Tech’s website can show you were to find one locally, or order online
  • B&H Giftcard This is perfect when you don’t know what to get. B&H is the Disneyland for photographers. They have everything, and at a very good price as well.
  • BlackRapid Camera Strap The RS-4 is the latest and greatest from BlackRapid, though they’re all awesome straps and fairly similar in design. I recently built a similar strap setup and LOVE IT. I’ll be getting myself an RS-4 in January if Santa doesn’t get me one first.
  • The Moment it Clicks by Joe McNally I don’t think there is a photographer out there that can live without this book. Amazing to say the least.
  • Artic Butterfly No, its not a bug, but a sensor cleaner. Digital cameras are prone to getting dust inside the camera where it can make pictures look bad and spotty. This will help get things clean, and is one of the best ways to do so. Using something NOT made for cameras can destroy it…

So there are a few ideas for you. There are plenty of other gifts out there. A gift certificate to a local camera store is always appreciated (by the photographer and the local retailer!) and very useful when that latest and greatest toy is announced. Various lenses and camera bags. Lenses require knowing what you should be shopping for, and I don’t think there’s a photographer out there that doesn’t have a camera bag fetish. Check out bags from companies like Lowepro, Kata, Crumpler, and Think Tank Photo. If you have a woman photographer (or maybe a very fashion oriented male) check out the Jill-E line of fashionable camera bags.

Here are some other great gift guides from and for photographers from around the internet

Hopfully this has been of some use and not too late. If you’re one of my family members, or my wife, I shoot with a Canon 20D. I don’t have a flash. I don’t have much of anything. So if anything in any of the lists above says it’s good for a Canon camera, I’ll take one… maybe two… There is also my Amazon.com wishlist located on the right side of every page :)
